Protecting your Investment & Color Refreshers

Protecting your investment

Permanent cosmetics are “permanent”. However if not properly protected they will fade more quickly than gradually over the years. It is important that you understand that the following factors will impact the lifespan your cosmetic investment:

  • The Sun – While very damaging to your skin in general, may accelerate fading of your cosmetic procedure. Be sure to use an effective sunscreen and a hat for protection. Just sunglasses alone will not provide adequate protection.
  • Pools and salt water – Be aware that disinfecting chemicals are harsh on your skin and salt water is a very drying natural element. Protecting your face with a thin layer of ointment to waterproof your procedure areas and applying effective sun blocks will be helpful.
  • Anti Aging Products – most of these products are exfoliates and contain ingredients such as glycolic acids, citric acids, salicylic acids, malic acids, retinols or vitamin A. Washing or moisturizing your face with these products because lightening of the skin or accelerated exfoliation can work against maintaining your permanent makeup. Make sure not to use these products directly on your permanent cosmetic procedures.

Color Refreshers

Permanent cosmetics are called “permanent” for several reasons. They cannot be washed off, and the pigment molecules will live forever in the skin they are implanted in to. Over time the your color may fade. Although indeed to last a respectable amount of time, your permanent makeup may require a touch up.

In order to keep permanent make-up looking natural, lighter-blended colors are used. The lighter the pigment chosen, the faster it will fade. Eyeliner, and lip color have the longest longevity, approximately 7 to 10 years, depending upon the color used. Eyebrows will not need a touch up for 2 to 4 years for fair skinned individuals and 4 to 7 years for darker skinned people. Some of the variables that affect longevity include the depth of pigment, color selected, skin type, and proper post care. Permanent Make-up is not treated like body art.

No one can predict exactly how long your initial procedure will last before needing to come into to have the color refreshed. Your coloring, your lifestyle, exposures to sun and chemicals, as well as how you personally like to see your makeup, all need to be taken into consideration. I will work with you to provide excellent service for safe procedures, the highest quality pigments, after care and maintenance advice to help keep your investment pristine for as long as possible.
